Ibaji – Paris

A nice Korean restaurant has opened in Paris recently. If you are following Paris’ architecture news, you have certainly heard of the « Jeune Rue » being transformed by the ambitious businessman Cédric Naudon. Ibaji is the first restaurant – part of the project, to open. I was very excited to try this place because until now, I have never found a decent korean restaurant in Paris with a nice décor, and interesting menu.
My favorite Korean dish is Bibimbap: it is rice with vegetables + meat + spicy pepper paste, topped with an egg. The version proposed by Ibaji is the « Dolsot Bibimbap » – 돌솥 비비밤, the one served in a hot stone pot. You have to mix everything very quickly, otherwise the rice will become tooo crispy. Bibimbap is a healthy, light dish. If you are vegetarian, you can ask without the meat.
I was surprised to see on the menu Korean version burgers, but I think the dish you really have to try is the Dolsot Bibimbap or the Bulgogi (marinated beef). The Banchan served with the main dish were very convincing, they tasted like the ones my mom prepares. She is a real good cook, people always ask her recipes for kimchi.
If you have already been in Korea, you will think that Ibaji is less traditional, but the food is great, and to everyone asking me a good korean restaurant, try this one !
+ The coffee comes from Brûleries de Belleville + The « Boricha » – cold barley tea will be perfect in Summer. Service was efficient, and if you are curious, the waiters will take time to detail the ingredients.
