Rose Bakery – Paris

Wannemakers – Amsterdam

We were looking for a nice place for lunch while walking on Singel Straat, and fell on Wannemakers. It was very calm when we went there because it was raining that day. This place must be really great at night with cocktails and the view on the canals.  wannemakers amsterdam mozzarella restaurant « Lire la suite »

Le Marais: The Broken Arm – Paris

Paris coffee scene has become more and more interesting, as coffee starts to be as important as wine or cheese. French people drink espresso, and in most of bistrots and cafés, if you want the « american » version, you have to precise « café allongé, s’il vous plaît » – an espresso with added water. I am always amused when I observe foreigner’s reaction when they order a coffee and they see it arriving in a tiny cup. Although the taste of espresso is very strong, the concentration of caffeine is less important than in an americano because the brewing time is longer for the americano.  the broken arm concept store cafe espresso paris french breakfast travel france

In Le Marais, I often go to a place called The Broken Arm. It is inside a concept store, and it was opened by a group of friends who were helding a blog called « Des Jeunes Gens Modernes » (blog now closed, link not found). They are famous for the Blueberry cheesecake (made by Rachel’s, not to be missed!), and the nice atmosphere. I really wish this café would be also opened on Sunday. cheesecake blueberry myrtille rachels paris le marais the broken arm best paris french france travel breakfast brunch Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

You can have lunch here as well as just a pastry with your coffee. It is not far from the Jacques Génin chocolaterie. Teakha – Hong Kong

Teakha was on top of my list of addresses to visit. I saw it in my cityguide, and their Green tea cheesecake looked very tempting. It is hidden in the calm Tai Ping Shan street, near Man Mo temple. The chinese characters « 茶 家 » are for Tea « 茶 » and « 家 » family, house.

They have a vast selection of drinks with tea, and I chose the Chai Tea Latte, (my favorite!) with the cheesecake. Their organic products are from Asia, and their pastries are prepared here.

I have tried so many Chai Latte in different places, I think Teakha’s Chai can be considered as one of the best I have tried until now. The spice was strong and was perfectly matching with my pastry. However, I wish the Green tea taste was more present.

One of my favorite vegetarian canteen in Paris is Bob’s Kitchen. There are 3 different addresses: Bob’s Juice bar at 15, rue Lucien Sampaix, not far from the Canal Saint Martin and Bob’s Bakery at the Halles Pajol near Gare du Nord. Bob’s Kitchen is opened for breakfast + lunch and on week ends you have an amazing brunch with pancakes.

I always take the same thing: juice from the cold pressery, a veggie stew and for dessert my favorite matcha cookie. I have not yet taken a picture of those small treats, I always forget to take one before it ends in my mouth ! The crust is made with matcha and they are filled with chocolate. I should also try their muffin one day but the cookie is too good to be missed ! :-d
